Fahrenheit Background:

The Fahrenheit temperature scale was proposed by physicist Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit in 1724. The scale was based on three reference points which are the freezing point of water, the temperature of the human body, and the boiling point of water. The original Fahrenheit scale was later revised slightly. It is most popular in United States where it is used heavily by media weather departments. Most other countries use the Celsius or Centegrade scale.

Fahrenheit degrees represent 1/180 of the interval between the freezing point and boiling point of water. Celsius degrees are 1/100. To convert Fahrenheit to Celsius you just need to remember that Farenheit is 9/5′s degrees Celsius. To convert Celsius to Fahrenheit just the reverse the fraction and use 5/9′s. Hopefully this information will be of help with your science or physics homework.

The Fahrenheit scale is not used for scientific measurements like those of its counterparts Celsius, Kelvin, and Rankine temperature scales. It’s popularity dropped off in the mid 1900′s when most counties standardized on the metric system. The temperature scales are often misspelled farenheit, celcius, and kelvin.
